Christine A. McLeod
  • Secretary (2003 - )

Christine A. McLeod has been Practice Manager at Preston Russell Law in Invercargill, New Zealand since 2000. After completing a music degree (which enables her to whistle in tune while she works) Christine worked for the Social Welfare Department for a year, which is how long it took her to figure out that she never, ever wanted to work for a Government Department again. She then started a job with her current employer as a Legal Executive in property law before moving to Caudwells in Dunedin where she stayed for five years.

Following the proud Kiwi "OE" (overseas experience) tradition, she moved to Perth, Australia for two years where she worked as a settlement agent for a Real Estate company. During this time, she attained her first degree black belt in karate, which she has subsequently found to be an invaluable aid when dealing with recalcitrant law firm Partners. She returned to New Zealand, and her old firm in 1993. A few years later, her supervising Partner tapped her on the shoulder and told her to think about a role in the Firm's management. She enrolled in a Business Diploma part-time in order to learn basic accounting and to prevent her from hyper-ventilating at the thought of doing the financial management for one of the biggest law firms in the city. She was appointed Office Manager in 1998 and Practice Manager in 2000 and concurs heartily with description of legal administrators as "cat herders".

In her spare time, Christine and her partner leap onto mountainbikes and hurtle down hills, where she frequently makes closer acquantaince with trees and forest floors than she would like. Monday generally finds her showing off an impressive array of bruises and sprains to her office colleagues. She has been known to sing a bit but is not considered a threat to Dame Kiri Te Kanawa. She is also a late-blooming petrolhead and is now the proud owner of a V8 Holden Commodore.
